Swimming
It’s that glorious time of the year when the sun is out and the water is inviting. I love the water and am always keen for a swim. As my wise friend says, “you never regret a swim”.
The benefits of sea swimming for your physical and mental health are abundant. There are a few articles at the bottom of this blog if you’d like to understand why.
To enjoy the water it is good to feel you are able to move with ease and this is where osteopathic treatment can be very helpful. Whether doing laps or splashing around, we are using all of our major joints and muscles.
An osteopath will look at your posture and your range of movement, and will tailor a treatment plan according to your specific needs. The shoulder area can get very tight from hours of swimming (or sitting at a computer). Through articulation and soft tissue release, improvements can be made to your movement. This supports injury prevention. The plan may also include specific exercises to strengthen and stabilise. The treatment plan is always in collaboration with what you would like to achieve.
