Tennis

Tennis is such a great sport and definitely gives you a good workout. I find myself in all sorts of unusual positions scrambling to reach that ball, providing some entertainment for my partner.

Recently I slid and landed hard on my glutes, doing the classic fall on an outstretched hand with a roll of the ankle. The whole thing was caught on video so I got to analyse frame by frame (see instagram or facebook for photos). I immediately got myself to an osteopath to help with the twists, strains and impact. The osteopath treated the more acute elements of the injury first, releasing my shoulder, neck and arm. They also looked at the ankle which needed some work to help reduce the swelling and to check that the bones weren’t compacted. Then they assessed and balanced my pelvis which had gone through a crazy twist during the fall. A few treatments later and some diligent stretching and I was back to normal.

Regular maintenance treatments will have you in better condition to deal with those unexpected mishaps and recover swiftly. When the joints are free and the muscles less tight you can imagine how much smoother that swing feels!
